How Can
We Honor Christ?
I. By Recognizing
His
Authority
Gen. 1:1, 27 In the beginning God created man and woman; Ps. 100:3 God made us
Heb. 1:1-2 God speaks through His Son Jesus; Matt. 28:18 Jesus has all authority
READ John 12:48-50 Jesus spoke the word of God (cf. 1 Thess. 2:13)
Matt. 17:5 We are to hear Jesus; John 6:63, 68 His words are spirit and life (eternal)
Luke 10:16 Those who hear us will hear the Son
II. By Putting Our
Trust In Him
Heb. 11:6 Faith is necessary to please God; Heb. 11 By or Through faith used 20 times
John 3:16 We
must believe or trust in Him to be saved
We Stand (Rom. 11:20), Live (Rom. 1:17), and Walk (2 Cor. 5:7) by faith; By faith we are
Sanctified (Acts
26:18), Justified (Rom. 5:1),
and made Children of God (Gal. 3:26)
2 Cor. 5:14-15 The love of Christ constrains or controls those who trust Him
Luke 13:3 We will repent of sin (change our mind about sin) when we trust Him
READ Rom. 6:1-2, 11-12 Our trust in Jesus will lead to a life without continual sin
III. By Submitting
To His
Will
Luke 6:46 If He
is truly Lord of our life, we will do what He says (cf.
John 14:15)
Matt. 28:18 Jesus has all power; John 6:68 His words are the words of eternal life
Rom. 1:16 His Gospel is the power unto salvation; Matt. 7:21 We must submit to Him
1 Samuel 15:3ff King Saul was disobedient; vs. 22 To obey is better than sacrifices
James 1:22 We must do what the Word says; John 1:1 Jesus is the Word
IV. By Being
Baptized
Into Him
Mark 16:15-16 We are to Go, Preach, and Baptize believers; Acts 2:41 3,000 were baptized
Acts 8:12 Believers were baptized immediately; Acts 16:30ff Baptized the same hour
Rom. 6:3-4 Has four purposes for water baptism (1) puts one into Christ;
(2) puts one into His death; (3) buried with Him; (4) raised to walk in newness of life
Acts 2:26-38 Our faith in Christ leads to repentance and baptism for remission of sins
Eph. 1:3 All spiritual blessing are in Christ; 2 Tim. 2:10 Salvation is in Christ
Gal. 3:26 We become children of God in Christ
Rom. 6:3; Gal 3:27 We are baptized into Christ; 1 Cor. 12:13 And baptized into His body
V. By Serving Him In His Church
Matt. 16:18 Jesus built His church; Eph. 3:21 God is honor or glorified in His church
Eph. 5:25 Jesus died for His church; Acts 20:28 He purchased the church with His blood
Eph. 1:22-23 The church is His body; Col. 1:13, 18 His kingdom; Eph. 5:23-32 His bride
Acts 2:47; Eph. 5:23 The church is composed of the saved
Matt. 15:13 Denominations do not belong to Christ; they all will one day be rooted up
John 17:20-21 Jesus prayed for His followers to be one
Eph. 1:22-23; 2:14-16 We can only be one in His one body, the church
Eph. 3:3-6 The hidden mystery was that Jew and Gentile are fellow-heirs in the same body
Eph. 4:3-6 We are now to keep the unity of the faith (notice 7 ones)
1 Cor. 1:10-13 Denominationalism is wrong. It opposes Christ prayer and divides believers.
