ALL MEN SHOULD HONOR THE SON

Intro.

John 5:23 – Jesus must be honored just as the Father is honored; Ecc. 12:13 – Our whole duty

John 14:6 – Jesus is the way to the Father; John 14:9 – When you see Jesus, you see the Father

John 10:10 – Jesus and the Father are one

Mark 7:6-7 – Many claim to honor Jesus, but are only giving lip-service

 

How Can We Honor Christ?

 

I.    By Recognizing His Authority

Gen. 1:1, 27 – In the beginning God created man and woman; Ps. 100:3 – God made us

Heb. 1:1-2 – God speaks through His Son Jesus; Matt. 28:18 – Jesus has all authority

READ John 12:48-50 – Jesus spoke the word of God (cf. 1 Thess. 2:13)

Matt. 17:5 – We are to hear Jesus; John 6:63, 68 – His words are spirit and life (eternal)

Luke 10:16 – Those who hear us will hear the Son

 

II.    By Putting Our Trust In Him

Heb. 11:6 – Faith is necessary to please God; Heb. 11 – “By” or “Through” faith used 20 times

John 3:16 – We must believe or trust in Him to be saved

We Stand (Rom. 11:20), Live (Rom. 1:17), and Walk (2 Cor. 5:7) by faith; By faith we are

Sanctified (Acts 26:18), Justified (Rom. 5:1), and made Children of God (Gal. 3:26)

2 Cor. 5:14-15 – The love of Christ constrains or controls those who trust Him

Luke 13:3 – We will repent of sin (change our mind about sin) when we trust Him

READ Rom. 6:1-2, 11-12 – Our trust in Jesus will lead to a life without continual sin

 

III.    By Submitting To His Will

Luke 6:46 – If He is truly Lord of our life, we will do what He says (cf. John 14:15)

Matt. 28:18 – Jesus has all power; John 6:68 – His words are the words of eternal life

Rom. 1:16 – His Gospel is the power unto salvation; Matt. 7:21 – We must submit to Him

1 Samuel 15:3ff – King Saul was disobedient; vs. 22 – To obey is better than sacrifices

James 1:22 – We must do what the Word says; John 1:1 – Jesus is the Word

 

IV.    By Being Baptized Into Him

Mark 16:15-16 – We are to Go, Preach, and Baptize believers; Acts 2:41 – 3,000 were baptized

Acts 8:12 – Believers were baptized immediately; Acts 16:30ff – Baptized the same hour

Rom. 6:3-4 – Has four purposes for water baptism (1) puts one into Christ;

(2) puts one into His death; (3) buried with Him; (4) raised to walk in newness of life

Acts 2:26-38 – Our faith in Christ leads to repentance and baptism for remission of sins

Eph. 1:3 – All spiritual blessing are in Christ; 2 Tim. 2:10 – Salvation is in Christ

Gal. 3:26 – We become children of God in Christ

Rom. 6:3; Gal 3:27 – We are baptized into Christ; 1 Cor. 12:13 – And baptized into His body

 

V.    By Serving Him In His Church

Matt. 16:18 – Jesus built His church; Eph. 3:21 – God is honor or glorified in His church

Eph. 5:25 – Jesus died for His church; Acts 20:28 – He purchased the church with His blood

Eph. 1:22-23 – The church is His body; Col. 1:13, 18 – His kingdom; Eph. 5:23-32 – His bride

Acts 2:47; Eph. 5:23 – The church is composed of the saved

Matt. 15:13 – Denominations do not belong to Christ; they all will one day be rooted up

John 17:20-21 – Jesus prayed for His followers to be one

Eph. 1:22-23; 2:14-16 – We can only be one in His one body, the church

Eph. 3:3-6 – The hidden mystery was that Jew and Gentile are fellow-heirs in the same body

Eph. 4:3-6 – We are now to keep the unity of the faith (notice 7 ones)

1 Cor. 1:10-13 – Denominationalism is wrong. It opposes Christ prayer and divides believers.
